About Austin

About Austin

Austin is the capital of Texas and the fourth largest city in the state. With several colleges and universities in the area, Austin also has an abundance of opportunities for those who want to further their studies, most notably the University of Texas—the largest university in Texas. A number of Fortune 500 companies have headquarters or regional offices in Austin including Apple Inc., Google, IBM, Whole Foods Market, Dell, and Facebook. Despite the city’s exponential growth over the years, Austin remains a safe place to live, study, and raise a family. In fact, the FBI ranked Austin as the second safest major city in the U.S. back in October of 2013.

Austin is booming and those who move here never want to leave.

So what makes Austin so special? Here are a few of the things we love about the ATX…

The Culture

Austin is made up of a diverse blend of cultures and lifestyles and has a reputation for being an open, accepting city. You can be yourself in Austin and celebrate all that makes you, you. When we say “Keep Austin Weird” we send the message that we enjoy the uniqueness and diversity of our culture.

The Creativity

From artists to entrepreneurs, the creativity in Austin is contagious. Austin is a breeding ground for new ideas and clever ways to embellish the ordinary.

The Food

Austin is a foodie town! We have Bar-B-Q, Tex-Mex, Organic and Ethnic that can rival anywhere on earth. We have amazing food trucks that offer some of the best food around. We take our food seriously and have fun with it too.

The Music

Any day of the week you can find live music pulsing through the air. We are the “Live Music Capital of the World” with over 200 live music venues throughout the city. ACL Music Festival and SXSW bring people from all over the globe to share the music scene.

The Outdoors

Austinites thrive on being outdoors. We are surrounded by hills and lakes and have miles of hike and bike trails and fabulous parks throughout the city. The outdoor activities are endless. Whether you are athletic or not, you can always find a way to be outside enjoying the city. Check out the picture of Barton Springs – Austin’s #1 natural spring pool. The 3-acre, spring-fed pool remains 68°F degrees year round, making it a perfect escape from the heat!

The Business Climate

Austin’s attractiveness as a place to live and work is a huge draw for business. We have one of the most educated and talented work forces in the country, giving us the name “Human Capital”. Texas is one of the few states that does not impose a state income tax, and the cost of living and housing is considered very affordable. From large corporations to start ups, Austin is at the top of the list of best places to do business.
