What is CLEP?

College-Level Examination Program® or CLEP offers exams in a wide array of subjects. When you take and pass a CLEP exam you will test out and receive credits towards the introductory college class in that subject, at participating institutions. This saves you both time and money towards getting your college degree.

  • It is a 90-120 minute exam in a specific subject. When you pass the exam you will be able to receive credits and test out of that introductory college class.

  • Anyone can sign up and take the exam. However, you want to be prepared to pass the first time you take it. That’s why HOFT is here to help make sure your confident and prepared to pass the test!

  • There are exams offered in many topics including History and Social Sciences, Composition and Literature, Science and Mathematics, Business, and World Languages.

  • Over 2,900 colleges recognize CLEP and will honor the exam for college credits. You can go to the CLEP site to check if a college participates and will accept the exam for credits.

  • You must take the exam at an official CLEP testing center or at home with remote proctoring. There are over 2,000 test centers world wide. Search the CLEP site for one in your area.
